The Madness of Milhouse is a Bart Simpson story first printed in Bart Simpson #10.

Synopsis[edit]

The students at Springfield Elementary get to produce a TV show with Martin Prince as the host. But when Martin gets too nervous before the premiere, Milhouse takes his role and becomes the host.

Plot[edit]

Springfield Elementary School gets a new radio, TV, and film lab which the students will be using to create their own half-hour TV show on cable, starring Martin Prince, Moments with Martin. On the first day of filming, Milhouse goes to find Martin to make sure he is ready for the show. Martin gets very irritated at Milhouse after he brings him several different chocolate milks because none of them are fresh enough, and Rainier Wolfcastle tells Martin that chocolate milk is off his diet because he is not allowed carbs or dairy. Martin becomes annoyed as there are only a few minutes left to personally greet today's guest, so he tells Milhouse to go and do it for him. Milhouse finds Kent Brockman and tells him that he is wanted on set and that Martin wants to personally welcome him to the show. Filming of the show starts and Martin freezes up, not knowing what to say. Due to Martin being scared, Edna Krabappel decides to have Milhouse take his place on the show.

Hosting the show, Milhouse points out that Brockman wears a lot of makeup. When Edna pushes him to ask a question, Milhouse asks how he became a news anchor. Brockman breaks down and reveals that he never went to journalism school and that he got his credentials from an ad in the back of a magazine and that it was either become a journalist or learn to draw Nutsy the Squirrel. Everyone is surprised at Milhouse getting Brockman to reveal such a secret, and they decide he will become the new permanent host of the show, Moments with Milhouse. On the show, Milhouse gets Otto to confess that he listens to Celine Dion, he gets Lunchlady Doris to reveal that her beloved goldfish was eaten alive by a hungry fifth-grader, so she makes the food bad on purpose, and he gets Chief Wiggum to admit that the entire Springfield Police Department is badly trained, totally incompetent, and completely corrupt. He also gets Krusty to admit that Carrot Top writes his jokes and Mr. Burns to reveal that he is completely bald and wears a wig.

Soon, the entire town is talking about the secrets Milhouse managed to reveal. However, the fame starts to get to Milhouse as he attacks Martin, who is now Milhouse's assistant, for no reason, and he bosses Jimbo and Kearney around. Bart goes to see Milhouse because they have not hung out to play for a long time. However, Milhouse dismisses Bart because of his new showbiz life, and Bart decides he needs to have an intervention for his friend. Mayor Quimby is to be the next guest on the show, and Bart gives him an earpiece so he can say the things Bart tells him to say. On the show, Milhouse asks him how so many people think he is a big doofus. Bart tells Quimby to say "I know you are but what am I?" which he does. Bart keeps feeding Quimby lines to say, and Quimby ends up just repeating what Milhouse is saying. After Milhouse says "I'm a big baby who wets his pants," Quimby agrees with him that Milhouse is a big baby who wets his pants. This causes Milhouse to become angry, and he decides that he cannot interview Quimby anymore. His breakdown leads to him being removed from the show.

Days later, the school bullies are giving Milhouse a wedgie. Bart goes to Milhouse, and they hang out like they used to before Milhouse's fame. Bart tells Milhouse that he can hook him up with some great post-celebrity job opportunities and takes him to Brockman, who is sketching Nutsy the Squirrel. Brockman says that with a few more weeks, he will finally be able to draw Nutsy.
