Synopsis[edit]
After Bart plays a prank on Principal Skinner, Skinner orders Bart to let Ralph be his conscience and Ralph begins giving Bart advice everywhere he goes. Meanwhile, Marge begins selling a cleaner that has been in her family for generations and Homer helps her when they start to do commercials on TV.
Plot[edit]
Seymour Skinner wakes up but cannot take off his sleep mask. He gets out of bed without looking where he is going, and ends up in an open truck filled with macaroni & cheese. Skinner decides to have a conversation with Bart and finds out that his mom helped him because he used the guest towels. Skinner decides to conduct an experiment on Bart: he will give him a new conscience, Ralph. Skinner hopes that Bart will learn from Ralph, who is the school's most innocent boy, as he begins to follow Bart. That night, Marge and Homer are celebrating their first anniversary of the first time Homer remembered an anniversary. The food is served by Luigi, who stumbles and gets Homer dirty, which Marge cleans with her family's own cleaning agents. This is detected by Lindsay Naegle, who want to sell Marge's product in an infomercial. The next school day, Bart has a test and has written the answers on his arm. This is detected by Ralph, who asks him not to cheat. Later, during the test, he sees a goblin who asks him not to cheat, which he doesn't. The infomercial for Marge's product premieres, but no one shows interest in the product until Moe's coffee machine explodes on Homer, and so Marge is forced to clean Homer on TV. This evidence leads to the start of sales for the cleaning agent. Lindsey wants them both to be involved in future commercials.
Bart is in the comic book store, reading the comics without buying them. Ralph tells him why it's bad to read them without buying them. He then sees Radioactive Man standing outside the store with a sign that says "Will Save the World for Food", so Bart buys the comic books. When Homer and Marge are about to be first printed in another commercial, Marge finds out that she has been replaced by Ms. Spot Away, but if Homer doesn't stay they will get sued.
Bart talks to Clancy, who tells him that lots of crazy things have happened since he started seeing Ralph. Clancy says that he can hypnotize people, which he learned from his uncle. Marge is angry at Homer for his participation in the commercial, but he cannot leave without being sued, so he must find a way to get the product to be discontinued. Marge then moves in with her sisters. Bart tells Ralph that he has given up, so Ralph says that now it's his turn to do what Bart wants. He hypnotizes Skinner to determine that summer vacation begins three months early, then they go to the TV studio to get Lindsey to stop advertising the commercials, but she is immune to hypnosis. During the filming, Bart and Ralph mess up Homer with things that the agent can't handle, so no one wants to buy the product anymore, Homer can stop advertising and Marge moves back home. Skinner and Chalmers have a vacation together on a beach, and Skinner is praised for declaring that summer vacation would begin three months earlier.
