Springfieldopolis is a Bart Simpson's Treehouse of Horror story first printed in The Simpsons' Treehouse of Horror #21.

Synopsis[edit]

"Visit the "metropolitan" world of Fritz Lang (Simpsons-style), when the idle rich championed by Mr. Burns clash with the working poor led by Marge Simpson."

Plot[edit]

It's a new day in the Springfieldopolis, and Mr. Burns monitors his nuclear power plant. It is shift change, and Homer has been stationed in the exclusive gardens, where he repairs a fountain. Marge is there with the children in Springfieldopolis because she wants to show them a cheerier environment. The visitors in the gardens do not like it and complain to Mr. Burns, who degrades himself by taking care of the power plant clock.

Homer takes a break and lets Gil take over. He finds a cavern where he wants to rest. He discovers that Marge is in the cavern, talking with several employees and complaining that they are exploited. Marge asks the employees to think about their eighty-hour workweek when they go home. Waylon Smithers overhears and tells Burns. They realize that Marge has the power to change people, so they kidnap her, and Professor Frink makes a robot version of her.

Burns tells Robot Marge that there is nothing wrong with an eighty-hour workweek. Robot Marge starts visiting the power plant and making the employees happy again, but productivity declines because they have fun instead of working. Homer misses Marge because she has no time for the family anymore. After a while, Springfieldopolis starts flooding because the employees are not working. They become mad at Robot Marge.

Homer and the kids drive through the city's water and find the real Marge, who is locked up at Frink's. She tells them that a robot copy of her has taken her place. Maggie creeps under the door and manages to capture the key so Marge can come out. Homer dives into the water and opens the plumbing so the water can recede. The workers plan to burn Robot Marge, and they discover she was a robot when the real Marge confronts Burns about what he's done.

The workers then plan to take revenge on Burns, but Marge tells them that violence solves nothing. Robot Marge transforms into a terminator and relegates the inhabitants. Robots take over the power plant, and the inhabitants are moved to a tent camp several miles from Springfieldopolis. Marge understands that the robots don't need them and think people are unnecessary. Smithers tells the inhabitants that Burns made the city and has a plan to find another small town with corrupt leadership and ignorant voters. Marge tells him not to do it.
