Springfield Mayoral Election
The Springfield Mayoral Election determined who would become the mayor of Springfield. An election was held between Sideshow Bob and Mayor Quimby. Bob won the election, but it was later revealed that the results had been fraudulent.
History[edit]
Springfield's mayoral election became a sharp satire of politics and media influence. After conservative radio host Birch Barlow convinced listeners that Sideshow Bob was a victim of the justice system, Mayor Joe Quimby faced a powerful challenger. Bob ran a polished campaign filled with attack ads, staged debates, and promises like the "Matlock Expressway," while Quimby appeared corrupt and incompetent.
On election day, even voters who personally hated Bob supported him because they favored conservative tax cuts or agreed with isolated policies. Springfield's absurd final tally gave Bob 100% of the vote and Quimby 1%, "with a 1% margin of error." After taking office, Bob immediately abused his power by threatening to demolish the Simpsons' house to build the Matlock Expressway and punishing Bart by sending him back to kindergarten.
After Bob won the election in a suspicious landslide, Bart and Lisa investigated and discovered that many of Bob's votes had been cast by dead people and even dead pets. During the trial, Lisa provoked Bob into bragging about his "masterpiece" of election fraud, leading him to confess publicly.
Polling[edit]
Polling included a margin of error of 1%.
