"Gone Boy" is the ninth episode of broadcast season 29 of The Simpsons and the six hundred twenty-seventh episode overall. It originally aired on December 10, 2017. The episode was written by John Frink and directed by Rob Oliver. It guest stars Kelsey Grammer as Sideshow Bob, Valerie Harper as General Hospital nurse, and Shaquille O'Neal as himself. It also features uncredited archive footage of John F. Kennedy as himself.
Synopsis[edit]
- When Bart goes missing, the town puts together a search party to find him. After most people give up hope and the news reports that he is dead, Sideshow Bob manipulates Milhouse into revealing where Bart is hiding.
Plot[edit]
Sideshow Bob and Shaquille O'Neal are collecting trash for community service with other men, but when they finish the work, the Simpson family runs over it with a rental car. After using up the rental time and fuel, Homer goes with Bart to play, but Bart needs to pee and goes into the forest, where he falls down a manhole.
The family and cops start searching the forest, but the cops fail as usual. Bart finds himself in some kind of bunker, where he discovers electronic equipment that appears to be part of a military installation. People begin looking for him, including Sideshow Bob, Shaquille O'Neal, and the other residents of Springfield.
Bart tries to escape, but the ladder gives way. He finds a phone, but instead of calling for help, he calls Moe for a prank. Milhouse finds the entrance but fails to help him. The news gives up hope and reports that he's dead, but Milhouse chooses not to share the truth in favor of gaining Lisa's affection.
Sideshow Bob struggles to accept the news, but Bart phones Marge to confirm he is alive. When Milhouse leaves the house, Bob appears and convinces him to lead him to Bart, with the family right behind. Bob shoves Milhouse down the manhole and follows him. Homer and Grampa fail to find them once again. Bob ties Bart and Milhouse to a missile and tries to launch it to kill them both, but he has regrets and saves them.
Several years later, an older Sideshow Bob is seen retired at a lighthouse, still going crazy over his obsession with killing Bart—even after saving him. He writes a message in the sand, only for it to be washed away by the water. He is overheard by the Squeaky-Voiced Teen, now a mailman, who delivers his mail. The Squeaky-Voiced Teen tells him he wouldn't have to disturb him or hear his rant if he got a mailbox. Bob considers the option.
