'Tisn't the Season is a The Simpsons Winter Wingding story first printed in Simpsons Winter Wingding #7.

Synopsis[edit]

"Springfield is ready to celebrate the holiday season, but the weather just isn't cooperating, and it's up to Lisa to find out what's keeping winter away."

Plot[edit]

Winter has started in Springfield and everyone in town is happy. Homer wants his holiday brews, Lisa is waiting for the migration of the green-footed Santa Fe sparrow and Bart wants to go sledding. Joe Quimby lights the brightest Christmas tree in the country and the winter season starts. Four weeks later it's Christmas, but the snow is still missing from the city, which creates little Christmas spirit: the kids don't feel like singing Christmas carols, the streets have no snow angels, several packages of eggnog are unsold and there are zero scientific reasons why the season is passing Springfield.

At the dining table, Bart is angry that he can't play in the snow and Homer is mad that the holiday brews have not been delivered yet. Lisa tells them that the weather doesn't matter, it's still Christmas. But Marge is also depressed; the stockings hung with care aren't the same without a roaring fireplace. A few days later when not even the green-footed Santa Fe sparrow has come to Springfield—they have flown to snowy Shelbyville—Lisa also gets angry and goes out to discover that it's like a nightmare, and she sees how everyone is sad that the snow has not arrived. Lisa decides to find out why it hasn't snowed and visits Sideshow Bob, Fat Tony, and Mr. Burns but none of them are responsible for the missing snow. The only thing that Lisa discovers that gives the Christmas spirit is the city's Christmas tree, so she visits Professor Frink to find out why his Christmas tree glows so unnaturally.

Frink tells her that Quimby asked him to set up the tree, and he decided to use his Frinkum nitrate as a new source of vast renewable energy. Unfortunately, it is probably more radioactive than he anticipated. Lisa tells him that they must remove the tree so that winter can come. Then winter officially starts in Springfield, and the lights on the Christmas tree are switched off. 12 seconds later, Springfield is covered in snow and everyone is happy: Bart can ride his sled, Lisa's bird has come and Homer's holiday brews have arrived. Frink celebrates Christmas with the Simpson family and tells them that he has learned a lesson: he will never again meddle in the dangerous holiday of science. However, four months later, Frink makes an Easter bunnium that doesn't go as he had imagined, but now he has really learned his lesson.
