Springfield Air Show was a large public aviation exhibition held at a U.S. Air Force Base, featuring military aircraft, aerial demonstrations, and aviation exhibits.
History
The Springfield Air Show attracted thousands of visitors with static aircraft displays, flight demonstrations, and military exhibits. Among the featured attractions were the Harrier Jump Jet, the Wright brothers' Model B aircraft, and exhibits where visitors could tour military planes. The event also included concession stands, souvenir displays, and aviation-themed presentations hosted by Colonel Leslie "Hap" Hapablap. During the show, Homer Simpson mistakenly purchased several cups of Alcohol-Free Duff after believing a concession stand was offering free beer, while Milhouse accidentally activated an F-15's ejection seat and crashed into a snack bar.
The event was abruptly interrupted when Sideshow Bob, who had infiltrated the air base after escaping a prison work detail, hijacked the stadium's giant video screen. He announced that he had stolen a ten-megaton nuclear weapon and threatened to detonate it unless Springfield eliminated television within two hours. The announcement triggered a mass evacuation of the air show, while military personnel and city officials searched the base in an effort to locate Bob and prevent the attack.
Bart and Lisa Simpson eventually discovered that Sideshow Bob was hiding aboard the Duff Blimp floating above the air show. After Lisa secretly alerted the authorities, the military surrounded the blimp. Although Bob attempted to escape in several aircraft before making a final attempt to crash a Wright brothers' airplane into Krusty the Clown, he was captured.
