Cultural references
- The title of the episode is a parody of the play Waiting for Godot by Samuel Beckett.
- The title could be as well an allusion to the movie Waiting for Guffman.
- Homer says he hasn't ridden a bike since "Lance Armstrong was a good man", referring to the cyclist doping case.
- When Duffman went to the hospital, Barney remembered the time when mascots Joe Camel and Frito Bandito were removed.
- Eye drops brand Eyesine is a reference to real world drops Visine produced by Johnson & Johnson.
- Electronica artist Der Zip Zorp uses a Daft Punk-like helmet.
- The intro advert for Homer as Duffman is a parody of Game of Thrones.
- Fictional beers Blitz and Strolling Rock are parodies of Schlitz and Rolling Rock, respectively.
- When Howard K. Duff VIII is welcoming Homer to his company, he shows him a painting of his ancestor Ichabod Duff crossing the Duffaware River. This is a reference to George Washington's crossing of the Delaware River.
- K. Duff VIII also says that his grandfather couldn't get the rights for Woody Woodpecker.
- Only three people have access to the Duff beer formula: Howard K. Duff VIII, American politician Condoleezza Rice and Howard's brother in law Terry.
- The formula is only "Schlitz + Water". Schlitz is a real world beer.
- When Howard tells Homer that "Duffman can't drink", Homer laughs and says it is like telling Batman not to eat bats.
- A painting of dinosaurs can be seen:
- The "kegasaurus" is a parody of a stegosaurus with bottles of beer on its back instead of spikes. Kegs are small barrels commonly used to store, transport, and serve beer.
- The "beeradactyl" is a parody of a pterodactyl with a bottle of beer on its head.
- The Knights of "Another Round-Table" is a parody of Knights of the Round Table.
- A golf shot by Aaron Watkins is spoiled by Homer.
- The book Surviving a Blimp Fire" has a cover that is very similar to the Hindenburg disaster photo taken in 1937.
- Duffman offers Howard K. Duff an Iggy Azalea CD.
- The episode was dedicated to Sam Simon who passed away on March 8th, one week before this episode aired. Part of an interview was shown during the credits at the end.
Continuity
- Homer was Duffman in the comic story The Duffman Cometh!.
- The Fruit Bat Man appears again. ("Dark Knight Court")
- After Homer says "Relax, honey, no one has ever been killed by a T-shirt cannon", one of Bart's T-shirts breaks one of Ned's bedroom windows, breaking a picture of Maude Flanders, who died after getting shot by a T-shirt cannon. ("Alone Again, Natura-Diddily")
- Ned has a picture of (the also deceased) Edna Krabappel in his bedroom. ("The Man Who Grew Too Much")
Trivia
- Homer, as Duffman, appears in an ad for the new Duff 9 pack, whose slogan is "When a 7 pack won't do". The Duff 7 pack was mentioned at the end of What to Expect When Bart's Expecting.
