Cultural references

• At the beginning of the episode, the Simpsons are watching a show called Knightboat: The Crime Solving Boat, a parody of Knight Rider.
• The kid in the Barney's Bowlarama who wants to go to California is a reference to the movie The Wizard.
• The Mary Tyler Moore Show: At the end of the montage of scenes of Homer working at the Barney's Bowlarama, the theme music from MTM plays and Homer sings "I'm gonna make it after all!", similar to the lyrics from the MTM theme song. Homer then tosses a bowling ball into the air, similar to Mary Richards tossing her hat into the air at the end of MTM's opening sequence.

Goofs

• When Homer finds out that Marge is pregnant with Lisa, he rěuns up the stairs, but on the wall you can see a picture of Lisa (or at least someone who looks like her).
• Also when Homer finds out about Lisa he was upstairs in the bathroom with Bart when Bart was flushing the keys down the toilet, in Lisa's First Word.
• Ruth Powers is at Marge's baby shower despite it being set long before Ruth knew Marge.
• When Homer and Marge went into their room after the trip to the beach, the bathroom door is suddenly the hallway door, and the next scene in their room is the bathroom again.
