Cultural references

• The name is a reference to the film The Day the Earth Stood Still.
  • The film has also been referenced in the title of the segment "The Day the Earth Looked Stupid", from the episode "Treehouse of Horror XVII" from Season 18.
• When Bart and T-Rex fight, the band plays the "fight scene" music from Star Trek: The Original Series, first heard in the episode "Amok Time".

Goofs

• Lenny has a Russian Nesting Donut in one scene, but in the scene before, his donut is normal. In the scene where Homer discovers that the box is empty, Lenny's donut is also normal.
