Give a Hoot, Stay in School! is a Simpsons Comics story first printed in Simpsons Comics #62.
Synopsis
Plot
At a book signing for Krusty the Clown: Living the Book of My Life, Bart asks Krusty how he first realized that he had a bright future in making other people look stupid. Krusty tells Bart to ignore everything written in the book and starts telling the real story.
As a child, Herschel Krustofsky was a perfect little angel in Mrs. Skinner's class. He brought apples for her and did extra credit work. One day, Ned Flanders joined the class. Ned was a bad boy and prankster who immediately won over the class because of his attitude. Ned pulled out an Acme Super Whoopie Cushion and used it when Mrs. Skinner sat down at her desk, causing the class to laugh. Ned then threw the whoopie cushion to Herschel and told him to hide it. Mrs. Skinner told Ned that if he pulled one more funny stunt, she would make sure he got expelled. After that, Ned pretended to surf on his desk, so Mrs. Skinner took him to the principal's office and the class never saw Ned again. With Ned gone, the mood in the class dropped as everyone missed his antics. Realizing this, Herschel pulled out the whoopie cushion when Mrs. Skinner came back into the classroom and used it when she sat down. Mrs. Skinner was shocked that Herschel would do such a thing, but he started laughing and said that he now goes by the name of Krusty.
Back in the present, Krusty tells Bart that he's been using that same whoopie cushion throughout his entire career. He then wonders if Ned ever misses making people laugh. Ned is seen in bed, wearing a clown nose, with a picture of Krusty and a copy of his biography on his bedside table.
