According to the announcement, Devito had previously played relief outfield for the Springfield Little League and was working as a substitute delivery driver for Burning Tongue Ice Cream at the time of his marriage. His wife, Mary Spencer, was employed as a shampooer/sweeper at Betty's Beauty Barn. After the wedding, the couple honeymooned at the Adult Video Motel on Route 7.
