- Hena is a parody of Xena.
- William Shatner is Troy McClure's groundskeeper.
- Mr. Burns mentions controlling the Commodore 64 computer.
- Doug says that his movie will make The Empire Strikes Back look like Return of the Jedi.
- Mr. Burns' nephews are based on Donald Duck's nephews Huey, Dewey, and Louie. Smithers is also seen dressed very similar to Donald.
- The game that the nerds were developing, DUMB, is a parody of Doom.
Continuity[edit]
- Benjamin, Doug and Gary get kicked out of the Kwik-E-Mart for reading the magazines without buying them and the library for eating food and are told "Hey! This is not a lending library!" and "Hey! This is not the Kwik-E-Mart!" respectively. Homer was kicked out for doing the same things in "Marge on the Lam" and was told similar things.
- Homer calls the game farm to check on Stampy ("Bart Gets an Elephant").
- The protagonist character in the nerds' video game reminds Homer of Mr. Sparkle ("In Marge We Trust").
- Mr. Black from "Kamp Krusty" appears.
