Cultural references
- The episode title is a reference to the 1990 film Miller's Crossing.
- Homer was watching a trailer for the Revenge of the Nerds reboot, starring John Cena as Booger. As of the episode's air date, a reboot was in the works by Seth MacFarlane.
- Homer's console at work was filled with cleaning supplies and unsold Mr. Burns Funkos. A real Mr. Burns Funko Pop! was sold by Funko.
- When Homer can't get it up in bed, Marge says that it seems like his lightsaber doesn't want to go "shwoom". She then asks if he went "Han Solo" earlier, a reference to Star Wars.
- "Chicken Soup for the News" is a reference to Chicken Soup for the Soul, an American self-help, consumer goods and media company.
- Homer eats tubes of Pringles.
- The restaurant Brunchhausen by Loxy is a reference to Munchausen by proxy.
