Cultural references[edit]
- The title of the episode is reference to the season 7 episode "Lisa the Vegetarian".
- Ralph says he is Finding Nemo while he drowns.
- Lisa uses a Dyson "hair pointer" to dry her hair and restore its points. Dyson is a British manufacturer of household appliances.
- Comic Book Guy has a Bartman tattoo on his arm.
- Homer refers to himself as a "veteran of the Cola wars" when he jumps into the "Big & Tall Falls" attraction.
- Milhouse considers Bart Amish for not using an app to book a place for "Upstream Extreme" at the water park. The Amish are prohibited from using electricity, telephones, and cars.
- Miss Hoover asks Lisa to take care of Nibbles, the classroom hamster, during the spring break because she was doing Jell-O shots with former students. Jell-O shots are a mixture of gelatine and alcohol, and are typically associated with spring break.
- Dr. Lionel Budgie accepts credit cards at his animal hospital. It includes Viza, a parody of Visa, and MoneyBank, which has a logo similar to that of MasterCard.
- Budgie asks Lisa if her hamster had the Tyzzer's disease.
- Homer is watching the NFL draft on TV and he is hoping that a player named Lubochuck is selected for the Phoenix Coyotes. Another player, Cédric Bélanger, is selected instead. The TV host also mentions the St. Louis Blues.
- Lisa is reading MouseBeautiful, a parody of the interior decorating magazine House Beautiful.
- Abe mentions Kramer vs. Kramer.
- When Lisa tells Bart that she is taking her job as a vet seriously, she says "I know why the caged dog scoots". This is a reference to the novel I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou.
- Milhouse gives Lisa his EpiPen, a medical device for injecting a measured dose of adrenaline to counter Anaphylaxis.
- Homer watches a video on MyTube, a parody of YouTube.
- Other classroom pets at Nibbles' funeral are:
- Shelly the Turtle is named after Shelly the Turtle from Sesame Street.
- Sallymander could be a reference to the enemy Sillymander in Ni no Kuni.
- Hamilton Fish is named after the politician Hamilton Fish.
- Willie plays the song Amazing Grace on his bagpipes at Nibbles' funeral, just like he did at Maude Flanders' funeral ceremony in the season 11 episode, "Alone Again, Natura-Diddily".
- The photos in Nibbles' funeral film include:
- An astronaut Nibbles traveling in a rocket and wearing a NASA helmet ("She of Little Faith").
- Skinner sending Nibbles in the hamster's exercise ball in an attempt to get help ("Skinner's Sense of Snow").
- Nibbles portraying the fictional character Atticus Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird.
- Nibbles as George Washington in his crossing of the Delaware River.
- Nibbles as "The First Governor of New Hamster", a reference to New Hampshire.
Trivia[edit]
- This is the fourth Bill Plympton's couch gag. The first was in "Beware My Cheating Bart", the second was in "Black-Eyed, Please" and the third was in "Married to the Blob".
- Gerstronkenplatzen is not a German word.
- The "fish that swim up your wiener" are actually real. They are called "Candiru". They are common in South America and do the same as what Bart mentioned, but rolling around in the snow naked is not the cure.

- At the car crash scene, when Marge was talking with Wiggum, the crash was a head-on or a rear-end impact between a red and a purple vehicle, but when Marge start cleaning the scene, it's a t-bone crash.
- There were also two ambulances and a fire truck at the crash site, but when Marge starts cleaning the scene, there's only one ambulance.
- The buildings surrounding the crash change appearances between scenes.
