Cultural references

- When spying on Lisa, Database says he feels like Harriet the Spy.
- When Lisa says "Ich bin ein Gymnast" ("I am a gymnast"), it is a reference to John F. Kennedy's words in West Berlin in 1963, "Ich bin ein Berliner."
- In Lisa's dream, John F. Kennedy speaks with the Boston accent for which he was known, including pronouncing "Lisa" as "Liser" and "vigor" as "vigah."
- When Lisa's friends drive, the song that plays is All Star by Smash Mouth.
- The song Homer plays while drinking is Tubthumping by Chumbawamba.
- "Cafe Kafka" is a reference to Franz Kafka.
- The pictures of cockroaches on the wall are references to Gregor Samsa, who wakes up as an insect in Kafka's most famous work, The Metamorphosis.

- The roadie doing the mic check uses the phrase "April is the cruellest month," which are the first words of T.S. Eliot's famous poem, The Waste Land.
- 2001: A Space Odyssey: The film's de facto theme, Also sprach Zarathustra, plays as Bart rolls Lisa (enclosed in the plastic bubble) off of the school roof to land on the giant chocolate cake commemorating Principal Skinner's years of service.
Trivia
- Francine's last name is revealed to be "Rhenquist".
- According to this episode, Principal Skinner has been an interim principal for 20 years.
- The gym teacher says that Coach Lugash "defected into East Germany." But in the episode "Children of a Lesser Clod", Lugash is said to have escaped from East Germany by cartwheeling over the Berlin Wall.
- Skinner is the only one to get chocolate cake splattered on him.
- Skinner's estimated life as listed on the plaque is "1953-2010" making him only 57 when he dies.
- It is revealed in this episode that Moleman is 80 years old, altrhough in a previous episode he claims to be only 31.
- Though he was said to be an 80 year old by someone who doesn't know him, to her he may look 80, but is really 31.
- The Itchy and Scratchy episode's production code was DABF06 which is really the production code for an episode of The Simpons entitled "The Bart Wants What It Wants".

- The dining room is where the downstairs closet should be.
- When she gets dragged off, Agnes' mouth was closed when she started talking.
- One of the girls in Lisa's gymnastics class jumped out the window just as Lisa got there, but about a minute later, the girl that jumped out the window is on the balance beam.
- She could have come in during Lisa's hallucination.
- The night that Lisa sneaks out to go to the poetry reading, as Homer walks by the kids rooms saying goodnight, Bart and Lisa's rooms seem to have switched positions.
- In the part with the Itchy and Scratchy cartoon, you see Itchy pour the butter on the toast and Scratchy's eyes are no where to be seen but in the next shot, Itchy's takes a bite out of one of Scratchy's eyes.
- When Homer is throwing the frisbee to get Bart out of the tree, we see the pieces of wood nailed onto the tree for Bart's treehouse, but then moments later they are gone, so that Lisa can use her gymnastics to get to the top.
- When Bart is eating (slurping) his soup in the bubble, Homer gets mad and fills Bart's bubble with water. When Homer picks up the bubble, the soup is no where to be seen.
- Sherri and Terri are participating in the 2nd grade gymnastics class but they're in the 4th grade.
- When Bart is at Krustyburger with Grampa, he is sitting in a booth, and his legs are not shown.
- When Wendell says "But Lunch is over" his skin is yellow despite being pale in the previous and next scenes.
