Cultural references
- The episode title is a reference to the 1984 sci-fi film The Last Starfighter.
- A beer-dispensing arcade game called The Last Barfighter also exists.
- The episode is a John Wick parody.
- The song that the band on ¡Noches con Abejorrito! plays is "Flight of the Bumblebee" by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov.
- Homer says that the tequila inspired George Clooney to make his own semi-authentic tequila. In 2003, Clooney co-founded Casamigos tequila company, which he sold four years later.
- The song that plays in Homer's car, and later during the drinking montage, is "Tequila" by The Champs.
- The scene where Homer steals the Crystal Skull from Bart by replacing it with Maggie is a parody of the opening scene in the Indiana Jones movie Raiders of the Lost Ark.
- Lenny says that the skull is from his least favorite Indiana Jones movie and his most favorite Shia LeBoeuf, referring to Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
- Moe has Iran hostage crisis shot glasses. One of the glasses has a picture of Ruhollah Khomeini on it.

Goofs
- In a picture of the Pin Pals in Moe's Tavern, Apu is colored yellow.
- Whilst the Crystal Skull was destroyed at the Squidport, the remains of it were found next to a wooden fence away from the Squidport.
- Moe claimed he had never been to the Power Plant before, despite working there in the episode "My Fare Lady".
