Cultural references
- The title is a reference to the '70s song "Alone Again (Naturally), as was the title of the previous episode "Alone Again, Natura-Diddily". Both episodes are centered around Ned Flanders.
- The song "Oh, Mardi Grass" by Homer is a parody of "O Tannenbaum", a German Christmas song.
- Bart carries all of Homer's Zydeco records for the Mardi Gras party. The zydeco music genre evolved in southwest Louisiana in places like New Orleans, where the Mardi Gras holiday is very popular.
- When Marge tells Homer to invite Ned Flanders to the party, Homer says yes, but only if he can wear the costume he provides, which is that of Wonder Woman.
- An instrumental version of "When the Saints Go Marching In" is heard at the party.
- Ned wants the party to end as it was already Ash Wednesday. Ash Wednesday falls on the first day of Lent, something that Homer later makes a reference to.
- Countryfine is a parody of Countrywide, a British estate agent company.
- The moving equipment company U-Tote is a parody of American U-Haul.
- When the Hibberts' au pair, who had a Russian accent, did not like the Simpsons house at all, she compared the guest room at the Hibberts' house to the Winter Palace.
- The Simpsons sing "For He's a Fabulous Flanders", a modified version of the popular song "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow".
- Homer calls himself "Sir Fix-a-Lot", a reference to Sir Mix-a-Lot, when he is about to fix the leaking faucet.
- Marge sees Ned as a Genie. Ned later appears with a magic lamp he found, a reference to Aladdin.
- When Homer criticize Ned and landlords for their way of living, Homer says Ned spends time in his "Egg McMansion". a reference to McDonald's Egg McMuffin.
- Homer and Moe mention Dateline NBC and the Peabody Award.
- A TV expose of Flanders is called "The Evil Ned", a parody of The Evil Dead.
- Like Keith Olbermann's "worst person in the world" in Countdown with Keith Olbermann, Kent Brockman labels Ned "the worst person who ever lived" on his newscast.
- The news portray Ned as a devil wearing a "Detroit Lions Fan" T-shirt with a toothbrush moustache, normally associated with Adolf Hitler.
- Marge thinks her family is going to end up homeless like Lucille Ball in Stone Pillow. This 1985 drama film portrays the life of an old homeless woman in New York City.
- Lisa's gay heroes include Billie Jean King, Susan Sontag, Sappho of Lesbos and Peppermint Patty.
- Homer leaves Grampa watching a DVD of Dwight D. Eisenhower playing and talking about golf. Eisenhower was a golf enthusiast and played frequently during and after his presidency.
- Eisenhower had an important role during World War II, and in his talk about golf he mentions General Patton, Nazi general Albert Kesselring and the Ardennes Forest, famous for being the place of the Battle of the Bulge.
- The scene when Homer says "It could be worse. At least it's not raining" is a reference to the 1974 film Young Frankenstein.
- The crazy guy at the homeless shelter mentions Amelia Earhart.
- Bart is wearing a T-shirt from the charity with the legend "The First Hulk Movie" (Hulk) while Lisa had "The Second Hulk Movie" T-Shirt (The Incredible Hulk).
- Nat Gladness, the new potential renter, mentions American merchant John Hancock.
