Bartman is a Bartman comic story first printed in Bartman #4. It is the first part of a three-part series.

Synopsis

Bartman is framed for a series of crimes, leading the townspeople to turn against him. With the entire town against him, Bart no longer knows what to do with himself.

Plot

Behind The Android's Dungeon, Stuey, an employee of the shop, is trying to sell Radioactive Man action figures to two kids for well above retail price. Bartman swoops in and stops him, telling him to sell at retail price, which he begrudgingly agrees to do. Bartman heads back home where Lisa puts on Channel 6 News. On the news, Kent Brockman reports a hit piece on Bartman, saying that the superhero threatened Stuey into giving away valuable consumer goods. Brockman ends his report by saying that Bartman is no longer welcome in Springfield. Meanwhile, in a warehouse across town, the supervillain Canker talks to his goons about Bartman. He tells them that once he destroys Bartman, Springfield will be his to conquer.

The next day, Bart heads to school, but finds the other students signing a petition to throw Bartman out of town. The Springfield Elementary School bus pulls up and has anti-Bartman slogans written all over it, so Bart decides to walk to school instead. On the way there, he sees many people talking about how Bartman is bad for the town. When he arrives at school, he sees that the school is also against Bartman, so he decides to skip school. Meanwhile, at the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant, Mr. Burns and Smithers discuss the anti-Bartman sentiment. In Kent Brockman's office, Brockman's assistant, Miss Grant, talks to him about the popularity of the campaign against Bartman. She wonders why Brockman is so against the superhero.

Meanwhile, in town, Canker's henchmen prepare to rob Stanley's Diamond Exchange and frame Bartman for the crime. They dress in purple suits and steal the diamonds before painting a purple "B" on the vault door. Brockman reports on Bartman being responsible for the crime. Meanwhile, Bart is in his treehouse when he sees the Bart signal going up, meaning Milhouse is trying to get in touch with him. Bart decides not to go to Milhouse because he is through being Bartman.

Two days later, Principal Skinner and Edna Krabappel discuss Bartman, with Edna pointing out that she has an interest in Bartman. Another two days later, a crime spree takes place, with Canker's henchmen committing crimes across town and framing Bartman for them. Worried about Bart, Milhouse goes to see him at the Simpson house. Bart tells his friend that he's through being Bartman because the people of Springfield don't want him around. Milhouse heads to the Bartman Cave and puts on Bartman's spare costume so he can attempt to clear Bartman's name. When Milhouse sees what he thinks is a citizen's arrest, he heads over to help, but finds that it's actually a lynching of a Bartman doll. Milhouse flees from the mob but is captured by Canker's henchmen, who believe that he is the real Bartman. They take Milhouse off to see Canker while Bart lies awake in bed.
