Shortly afterward, Homer Simpson used the family's remaining college savings to pay for therapy with Dr. Marvin Monroe, which meant the money set aside for Lisa’s education was gone; she lamented that this effectively ended her hopes of attending Vassar.

During the teachers' strike at Springfield Elementary School, Lisa expressed concern about her academic future, stating that she might not even be able to get into Vassar College due to the disruption of her studies.
