Synopsis

Wanting to become a hit on the social network chatter, Lisa creates an account using Maggie's picture, "chatterbaby". While Maggie's popularity explodes, Lisa has to hold back from taking credit for it out of fear that doing so would cause people to unfollow her.

Plot

At The Ohm Depot, Professor Frink buys a new U-Phone. When he asks the Squeaky-Voiced Teen how to recycle his old, obsolete phone, the teen flings it across town with the "Electronapult". The phone hits Milhouse in the face, breaking his glasses. Bart takes the phone and realizes that it's only two months old, so he decides to keep it. The next day, at Springfield Elementary School, Lisa tries to join in playing jump rope, but the girls don't let her because she's a smarty pants and her skipping rhymes are poems by Maya Angelou. Lisa goes to talk to Marge, but she's showing Maggie off to the other mothers at the school. Lisa then sees Bart with the U-Phone and asks what he's doing with it. The school bullies then come to Bart and tell him that it's time for his 3:45 beating. However, Bart reveals that he sent a message on chatter, which was responded to by his sixty-three chatter followers, who arrive to stop the bullies from beating Bart. Lisa asks Bart what chatter is, and he explains that it's a social network that everybody reads online. Lisa asks to borrow the phone, which Bart agrees to.

At home, Lisa sets up her own chatter account and immediately gets one follower, "In Da House". Soon, she has sent fifty messages, but still only has the one follower. Bart then reveals to Lisa that her one follower is Milhouse. At dinner, Lisa tries to talk to Homer and Marge, but Marge stops her as she's paying attention to Maggie. At school the next day, Becky tells Lisa that nobody follows her because she's just as stuck up online as she is in person. When Lisa gets home, she comes up with an idea and decides to use Maggie's photo for her new social media profile. She immediately gets several followers and starts posting like she's a baby, with her first post being "I like hugs." She then decides to translate her views and philosophies into posts that a baby would make. Soon, she has five hundred followers.

The next day, there's a commotion over in the preschool play area as the other families crowd around Maggie. Lisa suggests that some babies are extremely intelligent and could type before they could talk, and Maggie might be one of them. Soon, the chatterbaby account has over a thousand followers and people in Springfield start taking the posts to heart, changing their ways. The account gets the attention of Kent Brockman and Eye on Springfield, who do a segment on it. Meanwhile, Bart tells Lisa that he knows Maggie isn't really the one making the posts, and he wants to figure out who it is, although he doesn't suspect Lisa because he thinks she wouldn't be able to keep quiet that it was her behind it.

Benson Scott, a playwright, approaches the Simpsons and asks for permission to make a play based on Maggie and chatterbaby, offering five thousand dollars to do so. Homer and Marge agree to it and Lisa goes back to making more posts to get her views across to the people. The next day, Homer holds a press conference about chatterbaby merchandise. During the conference, Maggie is shown off to the people, and Lisa accidentally posts a message on the chatterbaby account. While most people don't realize that Maggie couldn't have posted it at that time, Milhouse realizes that Lisa posted it, but Lisa tells him that he doesn't have the guts to tell anybody.

Days later, at the Springfield Center for the Moderate Arts, the chatterbaby play is ready to be performed. Before the play, Milhouse tells Bart that Lisa is behind the chatterbaby account, which annoys Bart because if he tells people, they'll just replace Maggie's poster with Lisa's. Leading up to the play, one of Lisa's favorite bands, No Threat, performs their new song "Chatterbaby, We Love You Maggie!" This annoys Lisa because she feels that they should be singing about her, not Maggie, and she reveals to the audience that she's behind the chatterbaby account. Benson Scott becomes angry because that means everything has been a lie, and he cancels the play and tells the Simpsons that he'll sue them for the money back. Lisa throws the U-Phone at the ground, and it bounces and hits Milhouse in the face, breaking his glasses again. Homer gives Kirk the money for Milhouse's glasses because it means that Benson won't be able to sue him for it later, and Lisa apologizes to Marge as Marge apologizes for ignoring her and being too focused on Maggie.

At home the next day, Milhouse has unfollowed Lisa's original chatter account. However, she gets a new follower, "proudpapa". Lisa goes downstairs to find Homer on the computer and thanks him for following her.
