History
Homer was reading a book about baseball to Lisa and one of the pages featured "Then, Pete Rose plowed into his friend Ray Fosse, dislocating Fosse's shoulder in a meaningless game. He had earned the nickname 'Charlie Hustle' by not letting personal feelings get between him and home plate."
Behind the Laughter
Ray Fosse actually did get knocked over by Pete Rose in the 1971 All-Star Game. He was really injured and after returning from the injury, the once-promising catcher wasn't as effective as he once was.
