Cultural references

• The episode title is a pun on the movie The Social Network.
  • The plot of Lisa making a social networking site is also similar to The Social Network.
    • Also, SpringFace is a parody of Facebook. The "Floor" is a parody of Facebook's "Wall".
  • Armie Hammer voiced Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, the characters he played in The Social Network.
• The chalkboard gag, "We do need no education", is a reference to the lyric "We don't need no education" from the Pink Floyd song "Another Brick in the Wall".
• Reverend Lovejoy takes an online quiz to find which Muppet he is and gets Beaker as the result.
• Chubba the Shedd's Dust Palace is a reference to Jabba the Hutt's Sand Palace from Star Wars.
• In Towne Centre at Springfielde Glenne:
  • American Princess is a parody of American Girl.
  • Banana Dictatorship is a parody of Banana Republic, a clothing brand.
  • Cinnabun is a parody of American bakery-chain Cinnabon.
  • Créme de la Creams's name is a parody of the French term "crème de la crème", meaning "best of the best".
  • Cold Navy is a parody of Old Navy.

• The blue-haired lawyer says that SpringFace is the biggest failure since Ask Jeeves, a search engine. Jeeves, the mascot of the UK version of the site, then gets up and walks out, head hung low.
• During the London 2012 Olympics scene with the Winklevoss', "In the Hall of the Mountain King" can be heard.
  • The same song is heard in The Social Network in a very similar scene with the Winklevoss twins.
• The song used twice the episode, particularly when the text on the screen towards the end is telling the viewer what has happened to the characters after the episode, is "Creep" by Scala & Kolacny Brothers.

Trivia

• The episode was too short so A Simpsons "Show's Too Short" Story was placed at the end. This was animated in a similar way to the Dark Stanley story from "Yokel Chords", with similar music playing.
  • The appearance of a stand-alone short at the end of an episode designed solely to fill time was previously employed in the season four episode "The Front" with The Adventures of Ned Flanders.
  • The artwork of the "Show's Too Short" story pays homage to Edward Gorey an author and illustrator known for his dark humor and also for his animated opening to the PBS series, Mystery!.

• Blocko Cosmic Wars is seen again. ("The Food Wife")
• Spiffany's is seen again ("Politically Inept, with Homer Simpson")
• A Mapple Store is seen again. ("Mypods and Boomsticks")

Goofs

Alice Glick and Kent Brockman's daughter's hair coloring.

• During the scene at the First Church of Springfield:
  • Alice Glick is seen sitting in the front row, despite having died in "Replaceable You".
  • Kent Brockman's daughter is seen with dark brown hair rather than white.
• The text towards the end of the episode states "Groundskeeper Willie was not in this episode". However, Willie did make an appearance in the episode, albeit a minor cameo.
