- The episode title is a pun on the musical Bye Bye Birdie.
- The breakfast cereal Stabby-Oh's, which Itchy and Scratchy advertise at the very beginning of the episode, is a parody of Lucky Charms.
- During the scene where Marge chases the school bus, Milhouse says, "It's like Speed 2! Only with a bus instead of a boat!", off-handedly summarizing the plot of the original film, Speed.
