The magazines that contained bad news about the future are parodies of real-life ones.
A poster of the Mercury Seven can be seen in Lisa's bedroom.
  • There is a "Mercury 7 Astronauts" poster in Lisa's bedroom. This is a reference to the Mercury Seven, who were the astronauts selected to fly the spacecraft for Project Mercury, the first human spaceflight program of the United States.
  • Barry mentions the Valles Marineris, a system of canyons on Mars.
  • Blue Bronco Energy Drink is a parody of Red Bull.
  • The "Martian Habitat Simulator" is very similar to the habitat structure that was proposed for the Mars One project [1].
  • The labels that indicate the days passing by have the same effect as those from the film The Martian.
  • Lisa prepares to fix a tear in a Extravehicular Activity (E.V.A) suit using the correct patching material.
    • Marge comes over and quickly patches the tear with red nail polish. (Clear nail polish had commonly been used to stop a ladder in pantyhose.)
  • Marge says to Lisa "It looks like the ego has landed", a reference to what Neil Armstrong had said when the lunar module Eagle had successfully landed on the moon.
  • Ashley-madden.com is a reference to the Madden NFL videogame series
  • One of the astronauts complained because he hadn't already used his OpenTable dining points before the liftoff that was rescheduled to the following Thursday.
  • To prove to Lisa that she has guts, Marge said she once went to a rock concert by herself, in the rain, it was Loverboy.
The Best Show logo can be seen at the back of Barry and Paul's car. The guest stars that voiced them are a comedy duo who are the stars of that online radio show/podcast.
  • Guests Tom Scharpling and Jon Wurster are a comedy duo who are the stars of the online radio show and podcast The Best Show hosted by Scharpling. The Best Show logo appears on the back of the car driven by their characters during the end credits.
