Ten years ago, Homer has just got his job as safety inspector. Mr. Burns warns him to never press the emergency shut down button unless there's an emergency, but he excitedly keeps doing it. In the present, Homer is eating pizza at his workstation, and an alarm rings, but he's too lazy to move and calls Lenny to press it. At home, the kids are excited to go for a field trip at the state park, while Homer keeps complaining he didn't want to go when he proposed it.

They arrive at a waterfall, where the kids get excited about the stamp station. Homer keeps complaining that weekends are for relaxing and the sign at the site calls the place "Serenity Peak - Tranquility Grove". Afterwards, at the Bootlegger's Hideout, Marge tries to explain the story of the place, but they're only interested in the stamp station, while Homer is looking at his phone. The kids eventually fill the stamps and go to the Visitors Center, where they get their Wilderness Explorer Completion Trophies.

At the gift shop, the kids ask for a souvenir, while Homer complains more, but Marge tells him to fake enthusiasm for the children, for parenting. He grabs some stress ball and fakes the enthusiasm as suggested, and he convinces them, and the other people at the shop, to get them, and gets noticed by a shady guy. The guy later presents himself at home and is none other than Duffman, however the Duff Corporation has retired the character, and now the way to market a product is undercover, just like Homer did in the gift shop.

He offers him a job at EOD, Enthusiasm on Demand, stealth advertising for the modern consumer. On the streets, he gets delivered a package from EOD, containing a self-balancing unicycle, which he has to convince people to buy. At a mine shaft, some miners are trapped as reported by Kent Brockman. Homer arrives bringing happyness to the people gathered at the event. At the office, the CEO, Consonance, conveys he's the key to completing Project Dark Contrivance. However, Homer, instead of not neglecting his old job, he quit it.

The next task is to sell UnDuff Nothin', non-alcoholic beer to people. At Bowlarama, he tries to sell it to his friends, however he couldn't go through with it. As a result, Consonance called Homer into her office and had him go through the seperance procedure, a surgical operation on his brain, separating him from the tastes and desires that makes him what he is. He become the team leader of a number A department.
