North Dakota is one of the 50 states in the US. It's capital city is Bismark.
History
While watching a game show, a host asks a contestant "The capital of North Dakota is named after what German ruler?", with Homer guessing Hitler. Marge's sisters Patty and Selma correctly answer "Bismarck" as the city is named after German chancellor Otto von Bismarck.[1]
After getting run out of Florida, the Simpson family was trying to decide on where to go for their next vacation. They were looking at a map of the US that had most of states crossed out, which were apparently all the states that the Simpsons were no longer allowed to enter. North Dakota was one of the two states they were still allowed to enter. At first, Bart is pleased because he wants to see Mount Rushmore, but he becomes disappointed when Lisa points out that Mount Rushmore is in South Dakota.[2]
Bart asks Homer "If a plane crashes on the border of North and South Dakota, where do you bury the survivors?" Homer guesses Minnesota, but Bart says he is wrong because you can't bury survivors.[3]
Trivia
It is illegal to fall asleep with your shoes on in North Dakota.[4]
