• The episode title is a reference to the 1984 sci-fi film The Last Starfighter.
• The episode is a John Wick parody.
• The song that the band on ¡Noches con Abejorrito! plays is "Flight of the Bumblebee" by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov.
• The song that plays in Homer's car, and later during the drinking montage, is "Tequila" by The Champs.
• The scene where Homer steals the skull from Bart by replacing it with Maggie is a parody of the Indiana Jones movie Raiders of the Lost Ark.
• Lenny says that the Crystal Skull is from his least favorite Indiana Jones movie and his most favorite Shia LeBoeuf, referring to Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
