- The title of the episode is a parody of the play Waiting for Godot by Samuel Beckett.
- The title could be as well an allusion to the movie Waiting for Guffman.
- The intro advert for Homer as Duffman is a parody of Game of Thrones.
- The episode was dedicated to Sam Simon who passed away on March 8th, one week before this episode aired. Part of an interview was shown during the credits at the end.
