Cultural references

• The title of the episode is a possible reference to Walt Disney: One Man's Dream, an interactive gallery located on Mickey Avenue in Disney's Hollywood Studios at the Walt Disney World near Orlando, Florida.
• The song played during the couch gag is "Through It All There Is Love". This Beatles-like song is from Dan Castellaneta's album "Two Lips". The couch gag has the Simpsons parodying some of The Beatles' albums as well:
  • Meet the Simpsons! is a parody of Meet the Beatles!.
  • A Hard D'oh's Night is a parody of A Hard Day's Night.
  • Rubber Pants is a parody of Rubber Soul.
  • The Yellow Album (relating to the Simpsons' color) is a parody of The White Album (in name) and Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (in image). "The Yellow Album" is also a real album.
  • Flabby Road is a parody of Abbey Road.

• The "Bridal Chorus" is heard when Homer imagines him marrying himself.
• The pharmacy Oedipus Rx and it being "a mom and pop son pharmacy" is a reference to the Greek drama Oedipus Rex, in which Oedipus, the protagonist, fulfills a prophecy that would kill his father and marry his mother.
• Homer mentions Puerto Rican professional golfer Chi-Chi Rodríguez during his therapy with Janet Zilowitz.
• Symphony No. 9 by Antonín Dvořák is played when Homer stays at the plant during the night.
• The Itchy & Scratchy Show's episode "Remember the Alimony":
  • The title is a reference to "Remember the Alamo".
• During the episode "Piano Sonata No. 2" by Frédéric Chopin plays.
  • The episode parodies the movie The Odd Couple: Scratchy has the role of Felix and Itchy the role of Oscar. The Pigeon sisters reference Cecily and Gwendolyn Pigeon who try to date Felix. The two Pigeons who peck Scratchy in the cartoon have the hairstyles of Cecily and Gwendolyn from the film.
• Barney sings "Got a Date with an Angel", one of Clifford Grey's hits, at Moe's.
• Candace, who is an author working at the pharmacy, told Homer that playwright Tennessee Williams once worked at a shoe factory. Williams actually worked at the International Shoe Company factory, but hated the monotony and left.

• Some of the craft beers sold at the bar include:
  • "Garbage Pale ale"
  • "Thrilla in Vanilla", a reference to Thrilla in Manila, the final boxing match between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier.
  • "Rachel McAdams",
  • "Novembertoberfest", a referece to Oktoberfest.
  • "Harry Potter Porter" is a reference to Harry Potter.
  • "Chip Off the Old Bock", a reference to Chip Off the Old Block.
• Mr. Teeny own as Viza credit card, a parody of Visa.
• Homer mentions Jeffrey Katzenberg when he is talking about his baldness.
• "Big City" by Spacemen 3 plays whilst Homer is on drugs.
• When Homer wakes up and finds himself sleeping in a bed with clean sheets, he thinks he is at Urban Outfitters.
• Homer says he still buys Beanie Babies.
• Candace's friend tries to guess why Candace is dating Homer, and she asks her "Is he your guest at a dinner for schmucks?". This is a reference to the film Dinner for Schmucks.
• When Homer shows he is a changed man by opening the window to order a goose, he is re-enacting the scene at the end of A Christmas Carol when Ebeneezer Scrooge shows he is a changed man in the same way.
• Marge is glad that March was beautiful, and she congratulates Homer for his good behavior during the NCAA basketball tournament, which is also known as the "March Madness".
  • Homer is seen wearing a Duke's T-shirt and holding a NC State pennant. These are two of the four Universities that take part in the "Tobacco Road" rivalry in North Carolina.
• "What a Wonderful World" by The Clarks is sung by Maggie, while a cover by Joey Ramone plays as the end theme.
• Lisa mentions Skype.
• The final scene takes place in the TV series Girls with Hannah Horvath and Adam Sackler having a conversation in bed. Lena Dunham and Adam Driver, both protagonists on Girls, were guest stars on this episode.

• In the couch gag:
  • The Yellow Album is taken from the real-life album of the same name.
  • Abbey Road was previously parodied on an issue of Rolling Stone.
    • Unlike Rolling Stone, Maggie has been added in Marge's hands, and the Simpsons wear their regular clothes (with the exception of Bart's shoes, as he is barefoot in both parodies).
• In the tattoo scene and the following scene, various characters appear:

Goofs

• In the "Owner of the month" photo, Fritz has gray hair, even though he had orange hair during "Burns Verkaufen der Kraftwerk".
• At Moe's Tavern, when Homer, Lenny and Carl are watching the cartoon and talking about Homer's relationship, the pickled eggs jar is nowhere to be seen, only appearing when Barney plunges the comb onto it.
