Baba Branka is Moe Szyslak's grandmother. It is implied that she is from North Macedonia.
History[edit]
When Homer asked Moe for a glass of water, Moe said that was the stuff that killed his grandmother.[1]
Moe reminisced about his mother teaching him Macedonian. Right after, Moe had a flashback of his grandmother telling him in Macedonian that he was useless, contributed nothing, and was a leech. She apparently put cigarettes out on the back of his neck.[2]
Behind the Laughter[edit]
The framed picture of Baba Branka having green skin and being killed by water is a reference to the Wicked Witch of the West from The Wizard of Oz. Her name, Baba, is short for babuskha, a nickname used in Slavic culture for one's grandmother.
