- The episode title is a pun on The Parent Trap film series.
- Homer sings "Weddings Are Nice", a parody of "Wedding Bell Blues" by American songwriter and singer Laura Nyro.
- Bill from KBBL radio plays an audio clip from the 1968 American science-fiction film Planet of the Apes. The clip corresponds to when the astronaut George Taylor (Charlton Heston) is caught in a net and says "Damn dirty ape!" when one of the apes tries to approach him.
- Chief Wiggum's police car has a Miranda warning device.
- As the out-of-control police cruiser heads toward the hot soup truck, the police dog in the back covers his eyes and says, "Ruh-oh!" in a similar manner to Scooby-Doo.
