Cultural references[edit]
- The title of the episode is a reference to the film producer and one-time guest star Robert Evans autobiography The Kid Stays in the Picture.
- In one of Marc Maron podcasts, he interviewed Loudon Wainwright III and Bobcat Goldthwait.
- Late '80s High concept movies posters seen:
- Beverly Hills Boot Camp is likely a reference to the Beverly Hills, 90210 franchise.
- Spy Babies, a parody of Spy Kids.
- The Leprechaun Clause, a parody to The Santa Clause.
- Nerd Mom
- Nun-Jas, a portmanteau of "nun" and "ninjas". The French title, "Les Religeuses, Elles Ont Des Armes De L'Orient", is a reference to movie titles in other languages often being translated very strangely.[1]
- Basketball Dolphin
- Karate Lawyer
- Pope and a Half, a parody to Cop and a Half.
- Robo-Bladers
- My Uncle the Nephew
- Good Cop, Dog Cop is a reference to Good cop/bad cop.
- Absolute Vodk is a parody of Absolut Vodka.[2]
- The Sands of Space book is a reference to the novel Dune.[3]
- The ambitious but bizarre, and ultimately failed, attempt to do justice to The Sands of Space novel is likely modeled after Alejandro Jodorowsky's mid-1970s attempt to bring Dune to the screen.
- Savage Sam Borgberg is a shoutout to Savage Steve Holland.[4]
- The restaurant Krusty works at, Morton's, is modeled after The Ivy.[5]
- Celebrities at the restaurant:[6]
- A producer of the movies mentions Stanley Kubrick and Francis Ford Coppola.
- Cast members of the movie The Sands of Space include Judd Nelson and Christian Slater.
- The scene in the movie where the crew goes off to save Homer is a reference to Mad Max: Fury Road.
- Annie Leibovitz taking a picture in a bathtub full of milk is a reference to a famous photo of Whoopi Goldberg in such tub.[7]
- Writers of The Sands of Space movie include William Goldman, Joe Eszterhas, Shane Black and Nora Ephron.
- Krusty and Marge wanted to get Peabo Bryson to sing over the end credits.
- The captures want to sell the movie to the highest bidder, at MIFED. MIFED is a now-defunct Italian film sales festival, the Mercato Internazionale del File del Documentario.[8]
- Marc Maron says that he is so glad that Byron Allen cancelled his interview.
Trivia[edit]
