History[edit]
During a shooting incident connected to Springfield Mafia pursuing Krusty the Clown, Ned Flanders was speaking with Homer Simpson outside his home while Homer modified his car with so-called "speed holes." As gunfire suddenly erupted nearby, Flanders narrowly avoided serious injury when a bullet struck the Bible he routinely carried close to his chest. Moments later, a second shot hit a large religious relic that Flanders claimed was a fragment of the True Cross, leading him to believe the objects had protected his life during the attack.[1]
During their conflict with George H. W. Bush, Homer and Bart planned to release a swarm of locusts as part of their revenge. While preparing the prank, Homer consulted a copy of the Bible and compared the use of locusts to the biblical stories involving plagues.[2]
After Lisa became Buddhist, Reverend Lovejoy said to Marge, while holding the Holy Bible, that she could "save more souls with roller skates and Easy-Bake ovens than with this 2 thousand-page sleeping pill."[3]
When Ned Flanders was dating Sara Sloane, he began to imagine the Holy Bible stripping for him.[4]
Homer was flicking through the Bible at church when Grampa started to act crazy.[5]
