Synopsis[edit]
- "When Bart's latest prank leads to chaos at Springfield Elementary, Marge and Homer dream of a world in which their rambunctious son was never a Simpson."
Plot[edit]
At Springfield Elementary, the fourth grade class are reading books with kindergartners as part of Book Buddies Wednesday. Bart is paired up with a girl called Riley and starts to read Everyone Loves Their Job to her. However, Riley is disinterested in the book and hides in her sweater. Bart then starts to make up the story as he goes along, drawing in the book in the process. By the time he finishes reading, the entire kindergarten class has gathered around Bart to hear his story. The kids then all go and start drawing and writing in their own books. When Bart gets home, he is yelled at by Homer and Marge for defacing books and they repeatedly call Bart a destroyer. The next day, when Homer and Marge are called in to talk to Ms. Peyton, Bart's teacher, Ms. Peyton tells them that Bart made the kindergartners excited to read, something that they hadn't shown interest in before. The staff started photocopying the books to give the children something to draw and write on instead of the books. Meanwhile, Ralph also starts to read and uses a purple crayon to draw a hole on the wall, which he then goes into.
Outside the school, Homer and Marge talk about how they always see Bart as a problem and that other people see the good side of him whereas they can't. When they get back home, they sit outside and continue the discussion about whether they actually like Bart. The next morning then comes along and Homer and Marge wake up in a much fancier house up by the Springfield sign. They start the day and get Lisa and Maggie ready for school before they go off to work. Marge works as the head doctor at St. Shondaland Animal Hospital where she is the only staff member who takes the job seriously as everyone else takes part in office romances and gossips about them. Meanwhile, Homer works as the Jumbotron operator at the Isotope Stadium, which he loves.
After a quick trip to Moe's Tavern, Homer and the family go out for ice cream. As they're driving back home in the rain at night, Homer hits a boy who was skateboarding across the road. The boy reveals that his name is Bart, but can't remember anything else. The Simpsons take him to the hospital where Dr. Hibbert tells Bart that he has amnesia. The Simpsons decide to take Bart home with them rather than let him sleep in the Police Station jail until Chief Wiggum can sort out what to do with him. At home, Bart quickly starts to annoy the Simpsons with his bad behavior.
The next morning, Bart writes "eat my shorts" on Lisa's lunch bag, which Marge doesn't understand. Bart explains it's something he says to let people know not to mess with him as he's the boss. As everyone leaves for the day, Homer decides that they can't leave Bart at home alone. Homer takes Bart to work with him where Bart starts messing with the Jumbotron controls. Bart's silly messages and animations cause the crowd to go wild and the sound meter hits 100, something Homer had never managed to do before. Meanwhile, at the animal hospital, Marge gets annoyed at none of the staff taking their jobs seriously and tells them to "eat my shorts". The staff finally listen to Marge and start acting like professionals. Later at home, Bart and Lisa watch The Itchy & Scratchy Show episode "The Great British Slaying Show" together, and then watch cartoons until very late at night.
The next morning, things are different in the house. Lisa had opened up her Malibu Stacy dolls, which she previously didn't want to open due to OCD, and Maggie was laughing at a book after Bart had written her into it. Homer and Marge realize that they like having Bart around, despite his bad behavior. Chief Wiggum then knocks down the door to the house to take Bart away to the Springfield Maximum Security Orphanage. After Bart says goodbye to everyone, Homer and Marge run after the car because they don't want to lose Bart. Homer and Marge then wake up in bed and realize that not having Bart as their child was all a dream. They go into Bart's room where they tell him that they just realized that they like him.
Back at school, Chief Wiggum tries to talk Ralph into coming out of the hole he drew on the wall. Ralph then draws a boat and gets in that to sail down a river not knowing where it led to.
