Bart's guilt is a manifestation of Bart's guilt.

When Bart became jealous of the attention Lisa was getting after she got a new hat, which she affectionately named "Sunny", Bart threw the hat out of the car window while Lisa was sleeping and into a scrapyard. That night, Bart's guilt appeared to him. Bart was adamant that he didn't feel guilty about throwing away Lisa's hat, and Bart's denial also showed up to protect him, but Bart's guilt snapped his denial's neck. Later, Bart woke up in the night to find that his guilt was still there. Bart told his guilt that he looked worse, and Bart's guilt told him that Bart's lack of remorse made him grow. Bart's guilt then got bigger and greener, scaring Bart. However, Bart still tried to take it in stride, telling his guilt that he liked gross things when his guilt ate his pillow and spat it out covered in green goop, and enjoyed being eaten and pooped out by his guilt too.

The next morning, Bart's guilt had grown even bigger. Bart lied to his family, telling them that he had slept well. Marge then asked if he had seen Lisa's hat, and Bart's guilt grew again. Bart told Marge that he didn't remember Lisa having a hat, causing his guilt to grow even more. Bart's guilt then blew his nose on the kitchen curtains and cooked his hand in the waffle maker...

"The Cad and the Hat" is the fifteenth episode of broadcast season 28 of The Simpsons and the six hundred eleventh episode overall. It originally aired on February 19, 2017. The episode was written by Ron Zimmerman and directed by Steven Dean Moore. It guest stars Magnus Carlsen as himself, Seth Green as the Nerd, Patton Oswalt as Bart's guilt.

When Bart betrays Lisa by throwing away a hat she becomes attached to, he has to deal with his guilt—literally, as it manifests to Bart. Meanwhile, Homer is revealed to be a chess savant.

Sunny is the name of Lisa's sunhat which she bought at Sunblock Sam's.

While at Sunblock Sam's, Lisa saw the hat and decided to try it on. She then imagined herself wearing the hat while riding a flying unicorn and making the world a better place, so she decided to buy the hat. After buying the hat, Lisa started to get compliments from people. Meanwhile, Bart bought a temporary tattoo which immediately washed off in the ocean at Springfield Bay, leading to him getting mocked by the bullies. Due to this, Bart became jealous of Lisa and her new hat. While Lisa was sleeping when the car was at the Krusty Burger drive-thru, Bart threw her hat out of the window and into the scrapyard next to the restaurant, where it landed on a car.

That night, Lisa woke up and realized she was missing Sunny. She looked everywhere for the hat and even went to the Springfield Police Department but couldn't find it anywhere. Finally, she went back to Sunblock Sam's, where Shauna told her that they had no more of the same hat available. Dejected, Lisa returned home...
