- The title of the episode is a reference to the season 7 episode "Much Apu About Nothing".
- The episode title is also a pun on the Shakespeare comedy Much Ado About Nothing.
- The Springfield advertisement shows iconic US places such as the Lincoln Memorial, the Liberty Bell, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and Mount Rushmore.
- When Chalmers refuses to pay for a $30 sunblock, Apu offers him a free Philadelphia 76ers cap.
- Julio says "We love you, officer Puff 'n' Stuff" to Chief Wiggum. This is a reference to American TV series H.R. Pufnstuf.
