Cultural references
- The episode name is a reference to the fungal skin infection athlete's foot.
- Springfield Math Team T-shirt includes "π ≠ a/b", meaning that π is an irrational number that cannot be divided by two integers.
- Travelling by taxi, Nelson stops by Capital City Convention Center just to hit the nerds of the math team. Then he requests the driver to drive to the Model UN.
- The math joke Homer laughs about forms the phrase "I ate some pie":
