- All the ways that Homer is almost killed are similar to deaths in the Final Destination series.

- American actor John Wayne is seen in Hell.
Scary Tales Can Come True
- "Scary Tales Can Come True" is a reference to the opening line in the song "Young at Heart": "Fairy tales can come true".
- The following Fairytale characters make an appearance in "Scary Tales Can Come True":
- The Troll from "Three Billy Goats Gruff".
- Goldilocks and the Three Bears (Papa Bear, Mama Bear, and Baby Bear).
- Goldilocks looks similar to a young Shirley Temple.
- Rapunzel.

- Rapunzel sings to the tune of the folk song "Greensleeves".

Night of the Dolphin
- The segment is a parody of the 1973 film The Day of the Dolphin.

Trivia
- Snorky's statement that dolphins once lived on the land is actually true, as early cetaceans (dolphins and whales) had legs and lived like crocodilians. However, early cetaceans preceded the first appearance of humans in real life, and by the time the first humans appeared, all cetaceans have already evolved a permanently aquatic lifestyle.
Goofs
- In the Town Hall scene, Sanjay and Legs are incorrectly colored.
- Springfield Town Square is seen directly outside the Springfield Town Hall.
