- The future that Homer imagines is a parody of The Jetsons. Homer later refers to Mr. Burns as Mr. Spacely, George Jetson's boss.
- The grave of Mary holding Mr. Burns' body is a parody of the Pietà by Michelangelo.
- Lisa asks Big Monty whether he prefers The Spiderwick Chronicles or Twilight.
- The author of Harry Potter, J. K. Rowling, is the substitute teacher for Miss Hoover. She tells the class to write the last chapter to her final Harry Potter book. Later, Rowling refers to the students as "Muggles".
- When the bullies see the films showing at the Aztec Theater, Dolph says that none of them have Vin Diesel in them.
