Basketball is quite a popular sport played and watched in Springfield.

At the Springfield Youth Center, Lisa participated in basketball tryouts after being warned that she was failing gym class. While the other children dribbled normally, Lisa repeatedly bounced the basketball off her forehead, showing that she struggled badly with the sport. Later, Marge tried to cheer up Bart by playing basketball with him outside the Simpson house.
