Synopsis[edit]
- When Grayson Mathers is drafted to join the Springfield Atoms, Mr. Burns makes him the face of his liquor company. However, when Marge helps him after an alcohol-related health issue, she and Burns form an unlikely partnership to take care of the sports star.
Plot[edit]
At the Power Plant, all the workers abandon their posts to watch the sports channel's On the Clock, where Anger Watkins presents the Springfield Atoms' draft pick: Grayson Mathers. The workers riot in celebration across town, while Mr. Burns and Smithers review declining corporate revenue. Burns' liquor company, Mr. Gentleman Sipping Brandy, suffers the most, largely due to its ineffective ad campaign.
To reinvent the brand, branding expert Warburton Parker is brought in. However, Burns ultimately hears the cheers for Grayson and hires him as the new face of the company. The Simpson family attends the game against the Los Angeles Chargers at the Springfield Atoms Stadium, only to find Grayson a drunken mess, resulting in the crowd booing him.
To redeem himself, Grayson gives a speech at Springfield Elementary, but it falls apart when the bullies mock him, prompting him to throw books. He then downs another bottle of brandy, collapses in pain, and wakes up in the infirmary, where Marge is caring for him. She advises him to slow down, leading to a partnership with Burns: Marge handles Grayson's home life, while Burns manages his public image.
Marge brings Grayson home for dinner, where he shares that he was pushed into football at a young age and hasn't seen his parents since. Marge begins teaching him family values, inviting him to stay for a while. She teaches him how to use the dishwasher, helps him pass a drug test, takes him to a regular church, and throws him a birthday party.
At the party, Burns shows up ready to take Grayson out for a night of partying, but Marge reminds him that Grayson has a game the next day. The next day, Grayson performs successfully, but Burns worries he has become a mama's boy. At home, Marge and Burns argue, forcing Grayson to choose between them, which leads to his emotional breakdown.
Grayson leaves in one of his Ferraris and later sends Marge a ticket to the Sports Channel's annual awards show at The Draft Pigs Center for the Performing Arts, excited to have her as his plus one. However, Burns also receives an invitation.
At the show, just as Grayson wins the award for Most Inspiring Athlete, Marge and Burns start to bond rather than fight. But when Grayson delivers his acceptance speech, he credits his inspiration to his fiancée Kaitlyn, whom he met three days earlier and made his business manager—revealing to Marge and Burns that they have been replaced.
