Synopsis[edit]

After public humiliation forces him to doubt his own intelligence, Homer forms a group devoted to solving the mystery behind the disappearance of a tortoise from the Springfield Zoo. However, when the group starts to become dangerous, Homer must admit that the tortoise was never really missing in the first place.

Plot[edit]

Mayor Quimby holds a debate about no longer celebrating Columbus Day due to Christopher Columbus' problematic behavior, and everyone agrees except the people of Italian origins. Afterwards, he allows Helen Lovejoy to take the stand, raising concerns about DIY free libraries appearing all over town and the possibility of them containing books like the *Kamasutra*. Homer proposes bringing all the books together into one place for everyone to read, essentially creating a library, but the crowd laughs at him—even though the debate is being held in a library.

To cheer him up, Marge takes the family to the Springfield Zoo, where even the animals appear to think Homer is dumb. They eventually reach the exhibit for Slow Leonard, only to find the tortoise is missing. They are approached by the zoo director, and Homer attempts to persuade him to search for the tortoise. However, the director dismisses him, and Homer takes it personally. Back at home, he finds what he believes is a clue to the tortoise's disappearance.

Homer brings the evidence to the Police Station, but even Chief Wiggum dismisses him. Marge suggests he check Facelook for any relevant groups, and he discovers the "Lost Leonard!" group. Homer starts posting pictures of his supposed evidence, gaining traction online. He returns to the zoo to livestream his investigation. The exhibit has been replaced by Pete the prairie dog's. Looking around, he spots a nearby house with a door cam—Chalmers' house. Homer invites Chalmers to join the group, and they organize a meeting at the Simpson House.

Homer prepares paella and sets up a meeting room with a TV and an evidence board. The guests arrive, enjoy the paella, and begin adding their theories to the board. The group marches to the zoo director's house in protest. During the protest, Gil proposes to Ms. Hoover, and she accepts.

Back at home, Slow Leonard appears in the kitchen, and Homer privately confesses to Marge that he found the tortoise in a rabbit hole after falling down a ravine at the zoo. He hadn't told the group because he didn't want the fun and attention to end. When Homer still refuses to tell the truth, Marge calls him dumb, and he leaves for the wedding alone.

After the wedding, the group begins planning dangerous schemes to force the zoo director to release the tortoise. Homer tries to stop them but is turned on by the crowd. Marge arrives with Slow Leonard, and when the group suspects it's a robot, Homer helps them see the truth.

The group begins to disband, including Gil and Ms. Hoover, but Homer suggests a new mystery to keep them together—like discovering where calamari comes from or discussing the cartoon show that predicts the future. It's revealed that the yarn they used for conspiracy boards contains a hidden camera, and the producers, McClellan's, are monitoring conspiracy groups worldwide. Sales of their yarn are skyrocketing thanks to the group.

In the end, Homer records a TikTok video showing how to prepare his conspiracy-meeting paella.
