- The episode's title is a reference to the 1963 novel The Man Who Fell to Earth, which was adapted into a 1976 The Man Who Fell to Earth and a 1987 televison program.
- Homer compares the act of attacking a bald eagle to "kicking George Washington in his wooden nuts". This is a reference to George Washington's teeth, which were mistakenly considered to be made of wood.
- Bart and Milhouse are playing Mouse Catch, a parody of Mouse Trap.
