Synopsis[edit]
- When Lisa receives a mysterious Valentine's Day card, she puts together a team to figure out who gave it to her.
Plot[edit]
It is Valentine's Day at Springfield Elementary School, and everybody receives Valentine's except for Lisa. Bart reassures her, saying that there's still a few hours left and she'll probably get something by the end of the day. When Lisa goes to her locker, she finds that she has a card after all. She opens the card and sees that it's not signed with a name, so she pulls out her Junior C.S.I. Kit to figure out who sent the card. Lisa puts together a team consisting of Nelson Muntz, Groundskeeper Willie, and Lunchlady Doris to figure out who her secret admirer is.
Nelson swipes some placement tests from Principal Skinner;'s filing cabinet to compare the handwriting against. He finds eight matches, but also works out that the person who wrote the card was likely suffering from an Indian rug burn. Lisa goes to Kearney and Dolph to find who they had given the burns to that day, and they reveal that Milhouse was on the receiving end of one. Lisa and Nelson confront Milhouse, who says that he decided not to send Lisa a card this year to save himself from the grief of his feelings not being reciprocated.
Next, Lisa goes to Lunchlady Doris, who works out that the card has jambalaya sauce stains on it. Lunchlady Doris keeps a list of what causes children pick and only one of the students on the list matched the handwriting sample results; Martin Prince. Lisa confronts Martin in the school gym who tells her that he hasn't left the gym since that morning since he won't be able to contionue fourth grade unless he does a single pull up. He also reveals that he did have jambalaya sauce with his meatloaf, but he tripped and dropped his food so never actually got to eat it.
Finally, Lisa goes to Groundskeeper Willie to see what he has found. Willie uses his barf-soppin' sawdust to lift the fingerprints on the envelope and finds that they're a match for Ralph Wiggum. Lisa confronts Ralph, who says that he didn't give her the card, but he delivered it to her locker on behalf of someone else. Bart then admits that he left Lisa the card because he felt bad for her not receiving one. Bart explains that Nelson gave him an Indian burn on the school bus, he got the jambalaya sauce stains because Martin's food went everywhere in the cafeteria when he tripped, and then he had Ralph drop the card off in Lisa's locker. Bart apoloziges to Lisa for misleading her, and Lisa says that it was nice, but she still doesn't have a Valentine. Everyone at school starts laughing at Bart and Lisa because Bart left Lisa the Valentine's card, which they both hate.
