Wikisimpsons:Blocking

Wikisimpsons - The Simpsons Wiki
Wiki.png This page is an official Wikisimpsons policy and must be followed.
Failure to do so will result in consequences.

On Wikisimpsons, if a user breaks policies, this can be punishable by blocking. Blocking stops the user from making any more edits to pages.

Reasons for blocking

Reasons for blocking can be any of the following:

  • Vandalism/Spam.
  • Breaking policies.
  • Personal attacks/Inappropriate messages.
  • Open hostility towards other users via talk page messages/edit summaries.
  • Inappropriate usernames. Anyone with an inappropriate username will be permanently blocked but will be allowed to create a new account that doesn't break policy.
  • Ban evasion. This is editing under a different account or anonymous IP.

Block length

Blocks can be for any length. However, blocks usually follow the pattern of:

  • First Offense - Two Weeks.
  • Second Offense - One Month.
  • Third Offense - Three Months.
  • Fourth Offense - Six Months.
  • Fifth Offense - One Year or Permanent.

Depending on the severity of the offense, the number of edits that cause offenses, the attitude of the offender, and how much work their offenses take to correct, the typical steps could be skipped in favor of longer blocks. On the flip side, if a user has a history of making other good edits that don't cause offenses, blocks may be on the shorter side. This is usually left up to the blocking administrator's discretion.

Block options

There are various options when blocking users that can take away even more abilities from blocked users. These include:

  • Prevent account creation. This stops blocked users and IP addresses from creating accounts. This is usually done by default to stop offenders from attempting to get around blocks.
  • Prevent user from sending email. This prevents offenders from sending emails to other users on the wiki via the Special:EmailUser system.
  • Prevent this user from editing their own talk page while blocked. This blocks the offender from editing their own talk page. This is usually done if the user in question starts to get aggressive in their messaging or continues to break policies on their talk page.
  • Automatically block the last IP address used by this user, and any subsequent IP addresses they try to edit from. This blocks the IP address the user has at the time and any subsequent IPs associated with their account.
