Evergreen Terrace Rummage Sale
The Evergreen Terrace Rummage Sale was a neighborhood-wide garage sale in which residents of Evergreen Terrace sold unwanted household items to the public.
History
The rummage sale was organized as a community event, with residents setting up tables outside their homes to sell secondhand belongings. In preparation, families sorted through their attics and garages to gather items they no longer wanted. On the day of the event, neighbors and visitors browsed the tables while announcements were made over a portable public-address system to promote the merchandise.
The Simpson family sold a variety of old possessions, including novelty clothing, household items, and collectibles. Homer briefly took over the microphone and enthusiastically advertised the neighborhood and the items for sale, attracting a large crowd and helping increase sales. During the event, the vacant mansion across the street from the Simpsons was also sold to former U.S. President George H. W. Bush, whose arrival shifted the attention of everyone attending the sale.
