- Homer's song The Brandyman is a reference to The Candyman from Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory.
*This is the second time "The Candyman" has been parodied in the Simpsons universe. The first was The Garbage Man in Trash of the Titans.
- Moe claims that the only thing that has ever scared him is the stick figures from The Blair Witch Project.
Continuity
- The plot is very similar to the episode "Homer the Moe", both of which feature Homer looking after Moe's bar and then opening his own bar when Moe returns to work. The episode aired in November 2001, almost a year after the comic was released.
