History
Kwyjibo is a word made up by Bart during a game of Scrabble with his family. In the episode "Bart the Genius," Bart puts "kwyjibo" on the board, scoring 116 points (22 points, plus Triple Word Score, plus 50 points for using all seven of his letters). When Homer demands Bart say what a kwyjibo is, Bart replies, "A big, dumb, balding North American ape… with no chin." Marge adds in, "…and a short temper." At this point, Homer chases Bart away, causing him to exclaim, "Uh oh! Kwyjibo on the loose!"
Other information
- Kwyjibo is an idiom that has been used as the name of the Melissa Computer Virus.
- Kwyjibo is a word used in The Simpsons Scrabble.
- Bart's score was incorrect. According to The Simpsons Archive, all the letters in the word "kwyjibo" would score 26, plus 8 because it's impossible to get a triple word score without getting a double letter score on the j. The sum added together is 34, and then is multiplied by three for the triple word score. 34 * 3 is 102, and then add 50 for using all his letters. The final answer is 152. Original content here.
- No triple word score touched where Bart placed his letters.
- Another common mistake for Hollywood Scrabble players is claiming the 7 letter bonus for 7 letter words. This is possible only if you added on to the end or beginning of another word to make a new word from that. (ie. you play SHIVERS by adding one of your S tiles onto the word BOOK already on the board.) If you don't do this, then you would only be playing 6 tiles and therefore not get a bonus. If you DO do this, then you would get the points for the new word (BOOKS in the example) as well as your own. Bart did neither.
