History[edit]

When the Simpson family went to Books! Books! And Additional Books!, Lisa bought two books: a biography of Peter Ueberroth and Al Gore's new book, Sane Planning, Sensible Tomorrow. She said she hoped that Gore's new book was as exciting as his previous one, Rational Thinking, Reasonable Future. When the bookstore clerk scanned Sane Planning, Sensible Tomorrow at the cash register, a signal traveled to The Pentagon and Gore was notified that someone had finally bought a copy of it.[1]

Krusty the Clown was sent to entertain U.S. troops overseas, but The Pentagon later accused him of using his act—dancers, acrobats, and coded gags—to secretly reveal Army troop movements. Arrested and brought before a military tribunal on charges of treason, he was sentenced to death. However, it was later discovered that Krusty had stayed home the entire time, sending a look-alike in his place to perform—and allegedly spy. The real Krusty was exonerated, while the impostor was executed, and the nation moved on, oddly amused.[2]

Lisa's wish for world peace was granted and so there was no need for The Pentagon and it was converted into the Five Corners Mall as "pentagon" means 5 sided and got the name because the land was bordered on five sides by roads so to maximize the site's odd dimensions the architects designed a five-sided building.[3]
